Clarence V. Roberts tells in his book History of the Potts Family , Jonas Potts, father of Rachel Potts, founded the town of Pottsdown, Pennsylvania.

In 1739 Joseph moved to Bucks County, Pennsylvania at Buckingham in Plumstead Township where he resided for twelve years.

On July 2, 1751, he requested a certificate to Fairfax Monthly Meeting of Friends after he moved his family to Virginia.

It is important to note that at this point (1750), his son Joseph has married Mary Shaw and accompained his father to Virginia.

Joseph Burson owned 175 acres on Catoctin Creek, bought from George Fairfax, Loudon County, Virginia. While residing in Virginia, Joseph's youngest son Benjamin died. From Benjamin's will recorded October 10, 1769 is read "It is further my will and desire that my father, Joseph Burson, is to be maintained with food and rainment fitting for a man of his age and circumstance, out of the whole estate excepting what has been bequeathed to my wife above."
